EXHIBITION AWARDS.

Melbourne, January 23.
For fleece wools, the following awards have been made:—Best unskirted rams' fleece, McLean, Hawke's Bay, third. Long wool, greasy, Reid, Oamaru, first; R. Cobb, Palmerston North, second; J. Wallace, Papatoitoi, third. Best unskirted ewe's fleece, Mr Reid secured first, second, and third prizes. Best unskirted ewe's fleece not previously Bhown, MoLean, Hawkes Bay, second; Joseph and Phillips, Wairarapa, third. The jurors, in their report, state that in their opinion the regulations controlling the awards encourage a tendency to breed for weight rather than quality, thus placing high-class wools at a disadvantage. Received January 23rd, 9 p.m. Melbourne, January 23. The following additional awards have been made by the Exhibition Commissioners for wool in bales: — Messrs Tanner and Hamilton of Napier, and the Lowcliffe Company of Canterbury, first prize; McLean, Napier, third: Sutton, Napier, hon. mention. The grand champion prize is not yet announced.
