BOROUGH COUNCILS.

LYTTELTON.

This Council met for their usual fortnightly meeting on Monday night, there being present his Worship the Mayor, Crs. Bain, Holland, Milsom. Joyce, Mc_ennan, Hildyard, Brice, and McClatchie. Correspondence was read from Secretary Gas Company, stating that the Directors declined to accept the Council's offer of £10,000 for plant and works. The letter was received. From the Harbor Board, re the lighting of the town clock, and stating that the question would be laid before the Directors at their next meeting. The letter was received. From Mr Holmes, complaining of the nuisance caused by cows watering at his tanks. The matter was referred to the Water Supply Committee, with power to act. From Mr J. J. Kinsey, as Secretary to the Executive Committee Canterbury branch of the Dunedin Exhibition, asking for the Council's support and subscriptions. The letter was acknowledged. Reports were read from the Finance Committee showing receipts for the fortnight £194 6s lid. and recommending expenditure £-4116s lOd. Received and adopted. The reports of the Foreman and Works Committee were read and adopted. The report of the Sanitary Committee was read, recommending that the Harbor Board be written to to remove obstruction in drain in Dampier's Bay. Received and adopted. It was decided to write to the Domain Board, calling the attention of the Council to the fire which occurred there last Sunday, and recommending that the management of the Domain be handed over to the Council. Carried. Cr. Brice moved the notice of motion which was given last meeting—That the fee on dogs used for driving cattle be as per year instead of 10s. A lengthy and animated discussion took place, the matter eventually being referred to a special Committee. Messrs Cook Bros, wrote, asking for the renewal of their slaughter-house license. It was decided to grant the application. Three applications were received for the position of dog ranger, that of Mr R. M. Griffiths being accepted. It was decided that the Mayor enforce payment of all outstanding accounts due the Council. Carried. The Council then went into Committee.
