ASHBURTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The nshal meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present —Crs. H. Friedlander, R. Bird, J. Keir, D. McFarlane, T. Sealey. J. Tucker. In the unavoidable absence of his Worship the Mayor, Cr. Friedlander was voted to tbe chair. The Chairman said that the debit balance at the Bank was £1574 7s 7d. The total amount received since last meeting was £5912s 3d. A circular was read from the Minister of Public Works, with reference to the abolition of the Public Works Department. A telegram was received from his Worship the Mayor, stating that he was detained in Christchurch, and could not be at the meeting. Apologies were received from Cr. Scott and Cr. R. Friedlander. A report from the Reserves Committee, dealing with two of the Borough leases, was read, and after discussion adopted. Several other reports were read and dealt with without discussion. The Chairman stated that the Boroagh Valuer, Mr W. Home, had completed the valuation'of the boroagh. The valuation was about' £1000 less than that of last year. The tender of J. Craigie and Co. to paint the fence round Baring Square, a distance of 14 chains, for £5 16s, was accepted. A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned. j
