CASE OF DROWNING AT NEW BRIGHTON.
A most painful feeling was created in New Brighton last evening by the news that a youth had been drowned in the river Avon. It appears that the.deceased, Whose name was Ernest Mills, aged fifteen, son of Mr Mills, of Windsor, came down for a day's fishing, and between •three and four o'clock in the afternoon he and some others went for a bathe in the cutting. Mills stayed in longer than the rest, and apparently he got out of his depth and was carried into the stream. The cries of some boys attracted the attention of a lad named Wm. Moses, who resides in Creek road, Linwood, and who had also been bathing, and he pluckily jumped into the water again, and after some difficulty brought young Miles to. the bank. With the assistance of Mr Foster and others, efforts were made to restore animation, but without success. Dr. Moorhouse was telephoned for, and he arrived with commendable speed, but was, unable to do anything to brine back life. The body was removed to Patterson's hotel to await an Inquest.
