THE DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.
A meeting of the Canterbury Executive Committee of the New Zealand Jubilee Exhibition washeldat the Chamber of Commerce at 2.30 p.m. on Jan. 14th. Present— His. Worship the Mayor (Chairman), and Messrs J. Deans, M. Murphy, A. G. Howland, H. B. Kirk, J. L. Scott, W. B. Mitchell; W. Chrystalr, J. Cooke, G. T. Booth, J. Gammaek, F. Jenkins, G. S. Stead, and J. J. Kinsey, Secretary. The Chairman reported that toe subcommittee had considered the question of appointment of secretary, and after consideration they bad unanimously decided to appoint Mr Kinsey to the position. A code of rules to regulate the secretary's duties had been drawn up and signed SMr Kinsey and himself. He thought c Committee would agree that the appointroent was made in toe best interests of the Exhibition. A telegram was read from the Hon, the Premier, in regard to a free pass for the £ecsetsr&ftnd atotins?that the-Railways
Department refused to grant free passes except for strong reasons. The Hon. Mr Stevens would be in Christchurch in *few days. It was suggested that he shoula oe seen on the matter. m ..'..• A Sob-Committee, consisting i, or the Chairman, Messrs Murphy, C&rystalLand Cooke, were appointed to wait on the Hon. Mr Stevens in regard to the granting of a free pass for the Secretary. A long conversational discussion took place on general matters connected with the Exhibition, and it was decided to await the return of Mr Twopeny from Auckland, and obtain several important points of information from him. On the suggestion of the CHAIRMAN, a sub-Committee, to be called the Committee of Advice, consisting of MessrsMurphy and Cooke, was appointed to advise the Secretary as to obtaining photographs of growing crops and harvest operations, also samples of grain. It was resolved that the Secretory get subscriptionliste printed, and that the work of collecting be commenced at once ; and it was further resolved, on the suggestion of Mr Stead, that the Committees of the various public bodies in Canterbury be requested to canvass for subscriptions among their members. Messrs Mitchell and Booth signified their Avillingness to assist the Secretary in collecting subscriptions from the citizens. The name of Mr J. Deans was added to the Committee of Advice. After discussing matters of detail in onnection with the work already decided upon, the Committee adjourned.
