MONASTERY OF THE SACRED HEART.

The distribution of prizes to the successful scholars attending the Parochial Schools connected with the Convent took place at eleven o'clock yesterday morning. The ceremony was to hare been held in the afternoon but in consequence of a dramatic performance by the pupils attending the Marist Brothers' school in the evening, it had been deemed advisable to alter the hour. Though there were a good many present, and the parents and friends Bf the children, the numbers were smaller than tbev would have been had the Original hour been adhered to. The Right Bey. Bishop Grimes presided, and gave away the prizes, which were very numerous and appropriate. The proceedings were opened by the infants, who were arranged on the stage, singing two pieces, the rendering: of which told how well they bad been drilled. An address was also presented to his Lordship from the infants. It was on white silk, and had been very tastefully worked. Each of the infants received a memento of the occasion, and were then dismissed, after which a programme of music was gone through by the elder scholars of the parochial school, and a short drama entitled " Germaine Cousin" was performed. Between the acts several musical selections were contributed. The elder pupils "who had succeeded in gaining prizes were then presented with them. His Lordship addressed a few words to the children, and expressed his joy at the Buccess of the year. He had, he said, assisted at the distribution with mingled feelings of joy, fear and confidence. He was also "greatly pleased with the report of the school which had been civen to him by the Mother Superior. lie advised the children to work well during the whole year, if they would have joy at the next distribution of prizes. On behalf of those present he expressed gratification at the singing of the children, and the drama which had been performed. Though he had feelings of fear for them on account of the dangers they would meet during their vacation, he had confidence to believe that they would profit by their lessons, and would avoid reading what they should not read. He also alluded to the schools where nothing was taught about God, and said that when he was coming out to the colony he met a highly educated lady who was a teacher, but a pronounced infidel, and he told her, and he repeated it then, that he would rather trust a child to a she-wolf than to a teacher who had cot a religious belief. He concluded by wishing the children a holy and happy Vacation. The programme was concluded by the scholars singing the ''Jubilee Hymn for Pope Leo XIH."
