fn his statement regarding the intentions of the British Government, Mr Goschen said that in any event Suakim would have to be relieved without delay. General Grenfell's discretion was quite unfettered, Received December 17th. P-m. Suakim, Deifiaber 16. The enemy are answering the shellfog from the forts by a hot musketry fire, but so far little harm has been done. Two military aeronauts have started v from the ci ty to reconnoitre the enemy's ■ position and ascertain bis strength. Received December 17th, 10.30 p.m. Suakim, December 17. It is stated here that the Mahdi, in * letter to Oaman Digna, writes that the officer in reporting the capture of Emm Bey, mentioned that the white traveller was Stanley. Natives of Buakim utterly discredit the etory. Cavalry who reconnoitred the enemy's trenches to-day report them to be very Btroog, and that the followers of the rebel leader are numerous. The country is open, and free from bush. Received December 17th, 11 p-tn. Suakim, December 17. The Mahdi says that Emm Bey and Stanley were fettered and delivered taptive by Oman Salek, the Mahdi's lieutenant. Fado, another white trarelled, escaped, but it was expected lhat he might be recaptured. IReceived December 18th, L3O. a.m. London, December 17.
