FIGHTING IN SAMOA.

[press association telegram.] AUCKLAND, November 26. By the Manapouri, from Sydney, further particulars have been received of the war in Samoa, and the attack by Mataafa's troops on the entrenchments of Tamaseee's men. The Government troops having been compelled to leave Mulinua, took up their quarters in the district of tna. Tamasese and the bulk of his people occupied a strong position in the village of Suatuanan, this being the principal fort. Much delay in the prosecution of the war arose from the late arrival of the Savaii contingent of Malietoa's army, who had deferred their decision as to which party they should join. They at length enrolled themselves with the Malietoans, and on the 7th and Bth inst. the vanguard of Malietoa's army advanced upon the Government forts at Atua. Mateafa hoped that with the advance of the land force Mauono would send his fleet to sea to meet the .boat of Tamasese, but Mauono was not prepared and did not send out. The land attack was led by a comparatively small force of a few hundred men and resulted in heavy loss for the Malietoans, who, however, succeeded in gaining possession oi several email torts. The Government fleet advanced upon Laube, but Mataafa and the majority of his troops, who were encamped here, prevented the advance of the boats. The wounded of Mataafa's party were brought to ambulance tents provided by Captain Pelly of H.M.S. Lizard.
