RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of this Council was held on Friday evening. PreSßat-The Mayor (Mr Blackett), Cra. Sansom, Cone, Gulliver, Good, Jennings, LuxtoA, Keir, and Stephens. The follow, ing correspondence was read: —From the Secretary to the Charitable Aid Board, notifying that a contribution in money had. been grafted to the family of a man in Ul-Jaealth; also, from the same, stating that the Board would pay £2 towards the cost of a poor person's funeral. Messrs Harper and Co. forwarded a cheque for £!& 7s Od, shore of cost of asphalt opposite the Red Lion Hotel property. From the Colonial Secretary, acknowledging (the receipt of return of election of Mr E. R. Good to the office of Mayor. Mr H. Blackett wrote agreeing to take £50 per acre for the land taken for the northern drain. Tho Mayor of Lyttelton wrote asking the Council to co operate in securing the return of Cr. McClatchie to tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board. From the Secretary to the Charitable Aid Board, aud the Secretary to the Hospital Board,: notifying the election of the members of the Board, on the 28th instant, in Chriatchurch. On the motion , of Cr. Cone, the Mayor was appointed to represent the Council at the elections of Hospital and Charitable Boards. The Works Committee reported that the contract for concrete channeling in High street had completed the work. Before iluishiug the drain along the northern boundary tbe Works Committee would be glad to know whether the Council would prefer a ford or a culvert put in on the west belt. It was thought desirable to deepen the drain .in one or two places instead of altering a bridge put across it. It was decided to make a ford across the belt opposite the end of the northern drain. The Works Committee's report was then adopted. The nuancial statement showed that the amount received during the month had been £37 18s 3d, the debtor balance at the Bank was £324 8s Bd. AccouqU were passed for payment amountiug to £43 His 2d. After some discussion, it was decided to assist the Mandevllle and tjangiora Road board in stopping the overflow of water on Lehmanu's road. The half-yearly balance-sheet of the borough accounts was read and approved. The Mayor drew attention to the necessity for forming a footpath on the south side of Blaekett street. Cr. Luxton asked if the. Council thought that * person who had had a dog poisoned could use the collar for anotnerV It was pointed out that the Act was explicit in the. matter, and agairist Cr. Luxton's theory. Cr Jennings drew attention to the state of Alfred street, opposite Mr Tyler's stables, which was reported to be in a very bad. state. The matter was referred to the Sanitary Committee, with power to take immediate proceedings. Cr. Stephens asked for information as to tho distance the water cart should be used, aild was answered by Or. Good. The Town Clerk k naked for a fortnight's leave of absence for a holiday, which was granted. Two workmen applied for work. They stated that they had no employment, and would be obliged to apply for charitable 1 aid» The request was granted. The meeting. tHen- terminated.
