There wad a fair attendance, including several ladies. Mr H. O. Forbes, Curator of Museum, Chriatchiirch, was elected a member. The Uhajkman announced that the follow iug books had been presented to the Society :—"' Journal aud Proceedings of the H'ja.l Society of Aew South Wales, lbad: i'art 1;" and "Prodromus of Zoology of Victoria, Decade XVI.," by McCoy. The Seckktahy read the annual report, which stated that during the session there bad been six ordinary meetings, at which four papers bad been read. This showed a great falling off In comparison with last year, when there were seventeen papers read. In addition to the ordinary meetings a course of popular lectures were arranged for under the auspices of the Institute, but with only a moderate amount of succeHn. L/uring the session flve new members had joioed the Institute, as against seventeen last year, aud sixteen name* had been stru k off the list. At present, therefore, the number of uneinoers was 107, an against lltf last year. The Institute had to deplore the removal by death oi Mr T. H. Putu», who was one of it« earliest memberH, and contributed largely by his minute observations of nature to th<snatural MstoryoMiewZealand. The reserve consisting of subscriptions of life members amounted to MtSi Bβ. The Treasurer submitted the balancesheet, which, with the report, was adopted. The election of officers took place as follows :—President, Mr H. R. Webb; Vicepresidents, Professor tlaslam and Mr Hurst Seager; Treasurer, Mr H, R. Webb; Secretary, Mr Laing ; Auditor, Mr C. R. Blakiston; Couucil Messrs G. Hogben, H. O. Forbes, R. W.Fereday, J. T. Meeson, Dr. Symea. and Professor Mutton. The retiring President (Professor Haslam) then closed his term by reading a paper on tbe "Restoration of Philosophy," after which Professor Button read a paper on tbe Amuri earthquakes, being a reply to tbe series of papers which appeared in the Pbess from Mr Halkeit-Dawson, M.A. Professor Haslam vacated the chair, which was taken by Mr Webb, who closed the meeting.
