The body of Alfred Joe, the colored man, who was drowned, with two companions, about six weeks ago by the capsizing of a fishing boat, has been recovered at Waikeke Island. The Volunteers of the Auckland Garrison, with several country corps, are to hold a military display at Mangare on the Prince of Wales' Birthday. Major Gudgeon, Commissioner of the Police Force, and who has been on a tour of inspection in this district, left for Napier to-day. WAIPAWA, November 1. The Exhibition Committee are issuing circulars to all Mayors, Chairman of County Councils, and Town Boards, requesting the formation of local Committees in each district. At a meeting of the members of the legal profession to-day it was decided to oppose the proposal of the Government to shift the site of the Law Courts to the old Supreme Court site, near the railway elation, as it was considered inconvenient. A resolution was also carried that it was undesirable to erect new Law Courts in the present state of the finances of the colony. During laet night or early this morning • three large fishing boata belonging to A. Thomson were cut adrift at Port Chalmers, and wantonly destroyed by being ciiupped an die, rendering them useless. A number of charges have been already heard against KLnnimont, and prior to last criminal sittings of the Supreme Court his solicitor agreed to the case going to trial to end the affair. The trial took place, and Kinnimont was acquitted, being carried shoulder high at the close, while there was a strong demonstration against Dornwell. The present is another of a series of charges.
