LACROSSE.
The Canterbury Lacrosse Club met for its last general practice on Saturday. In conseqneace of the opening of the cricket season at Hagliey Park, they were obliged to.play upon the Christchurch football ground, North Park, and, despite the roughness of the turf, a. really good, game was played.. The weather turned out much better than, was expected, and was very enjoyable. • The teams had been arranged previously; with a view of giving the pos-sible-members of the team to play against Otago next' Saturday the best practice. Messrs Corfe and Buchan captained the sides, and a start was made about 3.15. Wood and Todd faced, and an attack was at once made upon Corfe's goal, but the defence were upon their Knetal and showed a great improvement upon any previous ,play." - Pearson, at pint, relieved, but the defence at the other end ot the field had been purposely made stronger than the attack, and McDonald returned time after time with very good throws. Buchan's attack men kept up an almost incessant assault upon Corfe's goal, but of. no avail until after thirty-five -minutes' play, when Buchan scored a very pretty goal. After half-time the game became faster and more general, . and CbrfeV team tnanaged to score 2 goals, while the other side placed 3 more to their credit, the defence at the north end being rather handicapped by the brilliant sunshine. A few minutes later Corfe's team scored again, and the game ended in favor of Buchan's side by 4 goals to 3. McDonald at point showed to more advantage than hitherto, and did good work for Buchan's side. A Committee meeting was held in the evening at Mr Corfe'e residence to select the team to play against Otago next Saturday, and there were present Messrs Corfe, Harman, Ross, aad Pearson. Some difficulty was experienced in making the wisest choice of the last two or three men, but the team eventually elected was as follows:—Mlakiston, sen., Pearson, Holieston, Harman, Rhodes, Corfe, Wood, Reeves, Buchan, Cooke, Ross, and Goldingham, with McDonald first, and Mannering second reserve. These men are requested to put in an appearance for practice every evening at Hagley Park, and also to at once order their colors at Ballantyne and Co/s if they have not already done so. The captain, Mr Pearson, requests the team and the emergencies to meet at his rooms on Thursday evening next at 8 p.m.
