OUR TRACTION ENGINES.

- TO THB EDITOB OF TBS PJtBSS. Sis,—l have just been reading a few remarks made in favor of happy Sefton. and one of them which struck mc most forcibly was that they have got such a I business as a traction engine, which is travelling all its time in bringing timber from oar own town to Sefton, and I am glad that the Seftonites have got the energy to start such a business. But a second thought was, What will our expensive railways do if such businesses start in other districts f The Government may let the lines to those businesses or reduce the charges to suit the depressed times; for there is a large quantity of wood in the Oxford bush which is at present going to decay. But as the expenses are so large from the merchant to theconsumer it has to waste on the land, end instead of the workmen having work to do getting it ready fw sale, they have to travelaway to the West Coast aad other districte in search of work. — X b * Te, **" SAXtm.
