"DIED FROM CIRCUMLOCUTION."

DUNEDIN, September 19,
At a meeting pf the Benevolent Trustees it was stated that* man named Theodore Baker had died in the Institution, on which a member said that he did not know what the certificate gave as tbe cause of death, but he put it down to circumlocution. It was stated that the man had come down from Cromwell with c, letter from the Besic—nt Magistrate. It was found he was suffering from incipient cataract of the eye, and required medical treatment. The Chairman >f the Bene vplent Trustees had tried to get him into the Hospital, but he was refused admission, and he was taken to the Benevolent Ins-tution. It was decided tp bring the matter before the Charitable Aid Board.
During tbe monfh of Jnne the Metropolitan police captured and took to the Dogs' Home, Battersea, 1312 stray dogs. Thirty-four dogs described as mad were killed in the streets—22 by constables.
