SPRINGS ROAD BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, August 28th, in the Clerk's house. Present—Messrs Gammack (chairman), J. McDonald, F. Murray, J. A. Pannett, and J. Woodward. Correspondence was received from the Returning Officer, stating that Mr J- McDonald was duly elected a member of the Board at the election held August 24th. From the Tai Tapu Road Board, enclosing account for half cost of clearing the River Halswell, and also requesting the Board to pay a small sum of £2 14s incurred extra. The accounts were passed. From Mr Wm. Gilmour drawing attention to the state of Blake's road through the overflow from the river Halswell. Mr McDonald and the Clerk were deputed to inspect same and report at next meeting. From Mr J. Crump, complaining that the water was dammed backou his land.andrequestinK the Board to remedy the same. Resolved, that a hole be made through Andrew's fence in the watercourse at once. From Mr John McDroy, asking for a small piece of shingling to be done on the old Selwyn road. The Clerk to inspect and report at next meeting. From Mr C. Wainwright, asking for a small drain to be made to carry Off the water from the road near his house. The Chairman and Mr Woodward were asked to inspect the same. From Mr A. Hart, requesting the watercourse on the belt at Lincoln to be deepened. The Clerk to inspect and remedy if practicable. From Mrs R. English, asking the Board to bear the cost of cleaning the drain on the Springs road near her property. The Clerk to arrange. Mr R. McMeekan waited upon the Board aud complained of the gorse being left in the drain by Crump's land and damming back the water on him. The Chairman and Mr Woodward were deputed to inspect the same. Surveyor's report read. Resolved that a new culvert be put in where the old one gave way on the Halswell road when the river goes down, and that the fords at the old accommodation house and at Lord's be repaired, and that the Clerk report on the strengthening of the embankment at the lower ford next Board day, and that the footpath at Lincoln be raised opposite Fenn's, and that the new road through Gould's land be opened as soon as the old one is dosed. The Chairman and Mr Pannett were appointed to sign cheques. Accounts amounting to £13317s 3d were passed for payment, when the Board adjonrned.
