More Interest than usual attached to the closing of the Derby and Oaks'or\lß9o on account of the Important alterations which had been made In the conditions, by which an easy forfeit Is provided, and a fixed sum guaranteed to the wjnner instead of the amount being dependent Upon the number of subscribers, hitherto. The change has evidently met with approval, as the nominations for the Derby show an increase of sixty-seven, and the Oaks an Increase of fifty-nine upon those received for the races to be run in 1888.
