Tuesday, August 28. [Before R. Beetham, Esq., R.M.] Drunkenness. —Albert Rhode pleaded guilty to having been found drank whilst in charge of a horse and dray in Stanmore road on the previous day. He was fined £1, or in default the usual alternative. < Alleged Forgebt and Uttbbino.— Henry Dixon Adams was charged with having forged and uttered, on August 25th, a cheque drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Timaru, for £6 9s. Chief-Detective Kirby said that the accused had been arrested on advice by telegram from the police at Timaru, and asked that he might be remanded to that place. The accused offered no objection, and he was remanded to appear on the following day. Prohibition Order.—An order was made in the case of Joseph Allen, on the application of his wife, prohibiting publicans in Christchurch district from supplying him with intoxicating liquor for the period of twelve months. Civil Cases. —Cooch v Canner, claim £7 9s 6d, for lamps, &c. Mr Doubleday for plaintiff. Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed, with costs. Lavery v Moon, claim £1 12s 4d, for groceries. Mr Bowman appeared for the defendant, who denied having received the goods. The case was adjourned for a week for farther evidence. Judgments went for plaintiffs, by default, with costs, in Webb v Mclvor, £1 17s sd; O'Brien v Baxter, £4 15s; Common and Co. v Rountree, £4 I2s9d; Ninian, Hyslop and Co. v Hirter, £17 14s 10d; and Fuchs v Lea and Aston, £15 ss. Weston v Smith and O'Brien v Bamford were adjourned till September 3rd.
