ROAD BOARDS.

EYEETON The monthly meeting of this Board was held Eebruaiy (Jth, 1888. Present —Messrs Evans (chairman). Chapmau and gaiilh. The Surveyor's report was read and approved. Letters were read from John Davis stating he wonld hold the Board responsible for any damage done to his land by the overflow of the Eyre caused by the obstructions in the bed of the Lyre river deposited in time of Hood. From Mrs Murphy, again applying for cost of work done by her along the Eyre hank, -3 16s- From Jar Thomas Pashby, objecting to any work being done to cause more water to flow down the No. 10 road. Mr Smith proposed and Mr Chapman seconded —" That Messrs Evans aud Smith ..appointed to meetMes_rsDixon and Peacock, re dealing with flood-water on South Eyre road." —Carried. Mr John Patterson; applied to the Board to shingle the new road through MrHeyward's land, and was Informed that his application would be favorably considered as soon as the road had been conveyed over to the Board by Mr lleyvvard. was formally agreed to. Mr Smith asked leave to postpone his notice of motion re Neeve's road until next meeting, which was agreed to. Tbe Sarveyor was directed to request the Railway Engineer to have the drain cleaned out from Ohoka to Mandeville. Resolved—That all outstanding rates not paid before the 20th of tbe present month be sued for at once. The Surveyor was directed to Invite tenders for shifting the cottage from the Cemetery Reserve to the girder bridge, tad give the present occupiers notice to vacate the cottage within one month. Accounts amounting to £103 5s Id were passed and ordered to be paid. WAIPARA. The monthly meeting of the Waipara Road Board was held at tbe office, Waikari, on February 7th. Present — Messrs J. Little (Chairman), A. Cowie, J. Douglas, and H. P. Recce. Mr G. H. Moore attended, complaining of tbfe drains cut in his land, and also that he r* bad received notice to clear gorse off the road, when he had no gorse fence in that . part of the district. The Chairman said - at the time the drains were cut, nine years since, Mr Moore was a member of the Board, and as he had not then objected, no doubt the Board had come to the con. elusion that he had agreed to their being cut. The gorse was a hard ease, the equity of it being in hi. favor, but he was afraid that the law would be against him. However, they would see that something be done, and at to-day's meeting instructions would be given to the Clerk to issue notices to all parties in the district who had permited gorse to overgrow on the road. Mr Moore said a- he was now at their meeting he should like to mention that he intended to drain the Waikari .las, and that would require a bridge across the Waikari Creek on the North road, and he trusted no objection by the Board would be raised to it. The correspondence was gone through as follows— _rom the Commissioner Property Tax, "Wellington, requesting a copy of che resolution levying the rate for the current year to be forwarded. Crossley, expressing his willingness to allow his manager to super, is. the Lakes road, as he had no doubt his being on the spot he could carry out the work quicker and cheaper than the Board could.
