AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S SPRING MEETING.

AUCKLAND, November 9. The Auckland Kacing Club's Spring meeting was opened to-day at Ellerslie racecourse. Fine weather prevailed, and there was a large attendance of the general public. The racing throughout was of a lirst-class character, but surprises were Che order of the day. Subjoined are the results:—

Trial Stakes of 60 soys. One mile. Mr W. Sojncrville'sßaliata. 7st4lb .. .. 1 Hon. E. Micliflson'a Fusee, 7st 101b (including 6lbs overweight) ... .. .. 2 Mr D. Twohill's Cinderella. Bst 111b .. .. 3 Tonnyeon, Xady Alice and Sir Walter also started.

Betting—2 to 1 on the field, Cinderella being most admired. The start was a good one, and Cinderella was first away, but m.i the back she surrendered the lead to Tennyson and Lady Alice, who however in their turn died away at tl*e cuttlne. Balista, Fusee, and Cinderella landed together in toe straight, and a great race resulted in their finishing in this order. Time, lmin 44* sec. Plvidends—£6 aud £5175.

Entering the straight Hilda, Cuahla, and Man Friday set put in pursuit of the flying leader.'bat they could never get on terms,, and Pearl Shell won easily fry a length from Hilda, who was some distance in front of Man Friday, Gushla being fourth. Peter Osbeck ran through at the back of the course, and was leading Magnesia by half a length at the mile post, when Coral, who had been running a very, patient race, was called on, and coming with a steady run was even with Peter Ottbeck as they bridged the hurdle in the straight, a magnificent race terminating in a victoryfor the Waikato mare by threequarters or a length.
