Tuesday, September 6. [Before R. Beethiim, Esq., B.M.| Drunkenness. — Jessie Brackenridfe was charged with this offence It appeared that this woman, a widow, uae considerable property in the Woowtoo district, and has for a long time given way to drink, living in a most disreputable manner. She had been only a few mouths liberated after serving a term of three months' imprisonment for assaulting the police, and there were seven other convictions against her. Mr Joyce, who appeared for her, said that her friends intended to send her out of the country. She was fined £3, or in default fourteen days imprisonment. For a first offence, a man was fined ss. Potty Larceny.—James Campbell (21) was charged with having, on April 23rd, stolen an ox tongue, valued at 2m 9d, th» property of A. E. Tutton, butcher, Victoria street. "Mr Joyce appeared for him. The accused, who had previously been employed at Mr Tutton\» place, was seen » 10 o'clock on the night named to go into the back premises, take out a tongue from the salt-tub, and prepare to take it away, when he was disturbed. Mr Tutton Informed the police, and a warrant *» issued, but the accused disappeared. He now denied the theft. There was notting else against him, and ho was released on probation. AaHAVi/nsu x Tkam Guajid. -Robert Dunn, against whom there are twenty convictions, pleaded guilty to being drnnfc. On Monday he was refused, at Woototon, permission to ride to town on the4.lßtratof but afterwards got on Iward unnoticed. When asked for his fare he struck awl kicked at the guard, lie was sentenced to pay 10s torbt'iijg druuk, and to one month* imprisonment tor the assault. Misckllankoum.—William Hnrcomne and Robert Henry were brought up for being concerned in a row which took place in Lower High street on August sJtn. There was no evidence to inculpate^them, and the t-a.se wiv* dismissed.—William Storey and Jl. Nott, for allowing cattle!to wander, were fined 5s each. John Dalivood, for leaving his horse and vehicle beyond his control, was fined ss. J. Daviea and V. Tavender were fined each 10" exposing for sale at Addington yard* sheep infested with lice. WiLliam Morrison, \V_ Drinkwater, und J. Drinkwater, lads, for trespassing with dogs in the pursuit of game on land belonging to »• Garforth, at SnrevdcMi. on July Xita, wore fined ea<h 10*.
