MR HARMAN AND LICENSING ELECTIONS.
TO T__ 81-rrOB OT THB FB_BB, Sib,—l ask, aa a simple act of jurtifle, -hat you insert this letter in reply to Mr Harms—.'a attack upon the temperance ratepayers of the city. When the question of the eleetiuis was before the ratepayers last year, the temper—ace people were told most distinctly that four of the gentlem out of the five, who sow call t tmSelves the old Committee, pledged their word for ten o'clock dosing of .barf.: Though some of the temperance men had- not much confidence in the. promise then made, the majority appeared 1$ favor of allowing the nomination to go unopposed. The result' is well known, and bemuse the Committee failed to keep their word as the temperance people understood it, others ore nominated! -his year., I am surprised that Mr Has* ____, who has hit__rto v - possessed the confidence of the temperance people and the public, generally, should permit himself to become now the mouthptece of the pub—• cans. Itiift well understood in the city; and there is no seed of secrecy about it, that Mr Harman aad the four gentleman aasO-at-d with him, are the nomine—iol the trade. And Mr Harman does sot speak for himself only, but for the whole of the Committee; and asks the ratepayers to -elect the same gentlemen for all four wards. This, he well knows, oan only be done by electing the old Committee. Mr Harman ought to know, and ao doubt does know, that a Committee _o*_ioase_ by the trade cannot give sat-—action to the public and the trade at the same t_-*» The publicans* interests arejust the oj>£f* site of the public interests, and the P-bXie interests should be placed first—Yours, Ac, BOBIS. CIOSBXHM.
