RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
:_ meeting of Volunteer officers and others interested in the formation of a Rifle Association, -waa held yesterday, ata. pin., at Warner's Hotel. * Present*— Mr Moore, Mayor of Kaiapoi (in the obair), Majors Toss will and Wolfe. Captains Bowron and Bichards. Messrs Lees, Hackwdrlh, Morley, and Anderson. The Cshibihw explained the proba-1 bility of soocess ef such'an Association, j there being a large number of members in j the Bine Clubs who were ready to join, with theSfcope that they might have one good Association; which would provide two or three good days' Bhooting in the year. Mr Lsas explained that the matter had been mooted at a meeting of Bine Clubß, add a Sub-Committee appointed to draw up a set'of rules; and since then it had been decided to invite the Volunteers to join, and the present meeting was there-, suit. He thought the best course was to appoint a Committee to get subscriptions, and then hold a —-acia} meeting,* at which the Association' xould be satisfactorily started. In answer to a'query, it was stated that Colonel Lean would be anxious to promote such an Association. . -; Mr Lhkß said the regulations proposed to'be shot under were those of the New Zealand Bine Association, which were founded on the National Association rules, and gave the particulars. The Bifle Clubs had agreed to form an Association; and it was with the hope of -getting the Volunteers to join the Association, that the present meeting had been called. Moved by Mr Hac - vobth, and seconded by Mr Lass—"That a Committee, consisting of one member from each Bifle Club in the province be appointed." A.vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
