PLUMPTON PARK MEETING.

The weather was fine for this meeting yesterday, and there were some 500 victors present. There was a lengthy card of nine events advertised to be run between 1 o'clock and 5.30 p.m., and it is needless to say that the time was considerably exceeded. The Stewards tried their utmost to render the delays as slight as possible, bat they had set themselves an almost impossible task. The fields were large, and the racing goad throughout, and re* fleeted most creditably on the handicapping. With the one exception of the Fijing Handicap, the starting was f xoellerit, but in that event it appeared to those on the stand that Marion and Ironsides were well on their legs before the flag fell, and the very fast time recorded (which was taken from the fall of the flag) favor* that assumption. The other jjekeya were tahen much by surprise, and most of them pulled up their horses, seeing that they were completely oat of the hunt. Had Mr Cutts used a second flag he would have been able to recall the horses when he saw that the start waa an unsatisfactory one. Messrs Hobbs and Goodwin ran a couple of machines, which did business to the amount of £2200. The following are the details :-

Handicap Hobbles, of 35 soys; second hoxse to receive 5 soys from the stakes. Two miles.' Mr J. Higgine' eh g Secretary, aged, list (Mitchell) 1 Mr D. Polly and Secretary were quickest away, followed by Baldie; but on settling down Tree Sec took command, with Polly her closest attendant. , Before half a mile had been covered Irish King was taken through, and cut out the running two lengths ahead of Baldie. This command he maintained until passing the stand, when Baldie closed on him, and the pair rounded the far bend and into the back stretch on even term*, with Tree Sec and Polly four lengths away. Secretary was then called upon, and quickly running into third place, followed the leaders along the back stretch, but gradually overhauling them he caught them at the second hurdle from home.* The whips were now out to Baldfe and Polly, but Secretary drew away, maintaining his advantage over the last flights. He had his own way home, winning comfortably by two lengths from Irish King, who beat Baldie by half a length for. second money. Time, 4aiin lsec. Xotalisator dividend,£3 Bβ. Maidsn Plats of 20 cove.
