SOUTH RAKAIA.
The ordinary meeting of South Rakaia Boad Board was held at Bakaia on Thursday. Preeent—Messrs D. G. Holmes, E. S. Coster, E. Mulligan, and C. Tucker. The Returning Officer reported the election of Messrs Coster, Holmes, and Ljtteltonu On the motion of Mr, Holmes, Mr Coster wae elected Chairman for the year. The Clerk's report was read and received.' A letter wae wad from the Kailway Engineer about the removal of an old fence. The Clerk said he had replied to the letter. No reply had been received from the Railway Department respecting the transfer of a small piece c£ road ai Cherteey. It wae resolved that the poisoned grain:: when ready be made up into handy . lots, and \>e distributed to within. th*-"district-t free*" of charge. MrW.S. Allan saw the Board, asking fp have about 300 chains of road" skim ploogb& tor 'the jrarnose of lillfiag; [the tussocks. The request was granted. It wraa also decided to comply with lit; Allan , * request to fill in several small' "holes in the Acton, and to place some shingle at a crossing on Hartnell's road. , , A request was received from several householders in Mackie street, for the opening and forming about three chains of that street past the school house. . It wsa resolved that as soon as the gorse which is growing there has been removed by the occupiers of the property there the Board will consider the request to forra the street. A letter waa received from Mr , Lyttelton, a newly-elected member, tender* ing his resignation. The resignation v&a accepted with regret. Mr A. Haslett saw the Board, asking to have certain worta carried out in the Village Settlement, and also on the subject of, water-raoe crosalnga. It was resolved >soon as the money; is received by the Board the work will be put in hand, and that the fords will be done by the Board and charged/ to the property holders pro ratd,.. Mr fnniea Wai- i lace wrote, saying that le found that the corner of the cellar which he was making for his new hotel, came about sue inches on. the footpath, and asking for it to be allowed to remain. The request was granted, subject to ite being removed at any- time at the requesfc of the Board.' Itwasreeolved that the usual notioes for the election of a membar to replace Mr Lyttelton be inserted in the papora. The. paysheet was passed, and the Board adjourned. . _;;——■ . . ■."
