DRAINAGE BOARD.

The Christohuroh District Drainage Board met _*8t night. Present—Messrs F. de C. Malet (Chairman), Vincent, Clisaold, Hosking, Barns, Taylor, Manning, Rhodes, and Hewitt.

On the motion of Mr Vincxnt, seconded by Mr Taxlob, the rates as advertised for the several districts were struck.

The report of the Engineer was read and adopted, and that officar was authorised to caU for tenders for clearing the Avon and the Heathcot •• The receipts were£l7s 16s Id; expenditure, £711 Us 2d, of whioh £54:9-41 was for Board of Health account; Bank overdraft, £623183 SI. Accounts to the amount of £657 la lOi were passed for payment.. * Correspondence was received *—-From the Colonial Secretary, advising the Board that the District. Engineer had received instructions to: make the Hospital connection wit- the sewer. From the Sydenham Council, asking to be aUowed to. use the sewers in extinguishing fires. Permission granted on conditions. From Be vera! local bodies,: agreeing to coUect the Board's rates on — conditions, as foUows s—The City Council, for cost of collection; the Woolston Town Board, free of charge} the LinWood Town Board, for 1 per cent., or' not more than 1. per cant.; the Heathcote Road Board, for 1. per cent, during the current year, and for less afterwards if it were found possible to collect the rate with the Road Board rates. Votes of thanks were unanimously accorded to the local bodies. ."From Mr G. King, asking tbe Board to deepen the drain through his property at Horseshoe Lake. It was resolved to do the work requested aad charge the cost to next year's estimates. From Mr J. H. Hopkins, with reference to the charging to the Woolston district the whole or the costs of the Woolston case, and respectfuUy suggesting an interview, with a view to'prevent further litigation. Received. From Mr J. H. Baker, asking the Board to have the dram through his property cleared out. Agreed to. It was resolved to sue for outstanding rates without further notice, and the Board adjourned.
