SUMNER TOWN BOARD.
An ordinary meeting of the above Board was held on Friday last. Letters were read from the Coroner, re recent fatal accident on the Sumner road, stating that theroadneaxMrMbnckVgate needed repair. From Mr H. B. Huddleston, re state of the road at that place. From the Major of Lyttelton, asking if ten or twelve good rifle shots, resident in Sumner, could be got to join a Rifle Club in Lyttelton. The Chairman's reply to the effect that a suffi- | cient number would not be forthcoming was approved, lhe Chairman was also thanked for correcting the erroneous statement made at the inqueeton the late Mr A. Mc Alpine, re bad state of the road where the accident happened. The Works Committee was authorised to call for tenders for quarrying and breaking 200 yards of road metal at the point near the wharf 100 yards at the cutting, and breaking about 60 yards near the Pound, with power to accept one or more tenders, It was resolved that as some persons decline to pay their share towards the cost of making the footpaths along Nay land street that the matter stand over for the present. The following resolutions were, also passed: —That a special meeting be held on Friday, the 29th May, to adopt the balancesheet. That Pound sales be held every alternate Tuesday, commencing on 28th instant. That the Works Committee have part of the Pound covered in. That a special meeting ot the Board be held on Wednesday, the 6th May, to consider a by-law fixing the amount owners or occupiers would have to pay towards making -footpaths in accordance with section 202 of the Municipal Corporations Act. Commissioner Grahak gave notice that he would move at next meeting, " That all moneys received from the sale of clay be devoted to special purposes." With referenda to continuing Enston [to Colenso street,' Commissioner Appleby having virtually withdrawn his first offer of the necessary land, it was resolved that Commissioners Wiggins and Graham see the owner of Section No. 235 with reference to having the street continued through his section. A letter was received from Mr E. W. Fereday, re deed of easement for the creek. Consideration deferred. After paying accounts amounting to JE3ll3s 3d, the meeting adjourned. :
