SITTINGS IN CHAMBERS. Friday, January 9. [Before His Honor Mr Justice Johnston.] His Honor Eat in the Court Chambers at 11 a.m. court procedure. His Honor said that as this was the first sitting in the new year he might mention that it had been arranged to hold Chamber sittings on Tuesdays at 10.30 a.m., when non-contentious business would no doubt be taken. Then the Court would sit in bankruptcy at 11 a.m. On Wednesdays the banco sittings would take place at 11, and on Fridays Chamber business also at 11. He thought this arrangement would facilitate business very much, and prevent the banco business being interfered with as it had been. - ■ ■ * .;- Mr Weston, speaking on behalf of the profession, expressed the opinion that the course proposed by his Honor would be a great boon. probates. Orders for probate were granted as under: —Re Thomas Smith Duncan, deceased, to Ellen Z. Duncan, the widow, and Thomas Duncan, reserving power to C. C. C. Duncan to come in and prove (Mr Martin) ; re James Calverly, deceased, to Mary Anne Calverly, as widow (Mr Joyce). ELL V HARPER AND ANOTHER. Mr Martin applied for an order postponing the trial herein till next session of the Court, and adjourning summons for special jury sine die. Mr Austin for plaintiff consented. Order made as prayed by consent. RE AGNE3 FISHER. Mr Joyce applied for an order calling upon Agnes Fisher to show cause under section 31 of the Land Transfer Act why the District Land Registrar should not be restrained from dealing with a certain parcel of land at Oxford. Mr Kippenberger, for Mr Joynt, appeared for Mrs Fisher and contra. After some argument the matter stood over until Friday next in Chambers. BE JOHN WATSON, DECEASED. Mr Hobden applied, for Mr Harper, for letters of administration herein to Bridget Latter. His Honor made the order as prayed. BE CAROLINE SMITH, DECEASED. Mr Malet applied for probate herein to F. De Carteret Malet as sole executor. His Honor made the order as prayed. BE CHARLOTTE TURNER, DECEASED. Mr Martin applied for probate to Robert Spencer Turner as executor. Order made as prayed. PbebbiiEton.—The installation of officers of the Prebbleton Lodge, 1.0.0. F., No. 33, N.Z., took place in the Library on Wednesday, January 7th, 1885. A number of the uninitiated public were present. The Lodge met at the usual time, and when it was opened the public were admitted. There were not many gentlemen present, but the ladies' curiosity had been aroused, and they turned out in force. The N.G.s, officers <and members of the Addington Lodge, and Ridgley Lodge, Christchurch, j paid a visit on this occasion, accompanied j by the Grand Lodge Officers, who, on entering the Lodge room, were warmly greeted. The installing officers were—D.D.G M., Bro. Rev. A. C. Wright; G.M., Bro. Groves j G.W., Bro. Swartzj ;G;S., Bro. Taylor; G.T., Bro, —. The installation j completed, the officers elect retired, and were examined by the G.M. as to their fitness. On re-entering, the installation ode was sung whilst they marched round the room, after which the following officers were duly installed in their respective offices:—Bro. J. Harding; N.G.; Bro. S. Burrows, V.G.: Bro. W. Hazlehurst, Sec; Bro. G. D. Marsh, Treasurer. The following were duly elected:—Bro. Muller, R.B. to N.G.; Bro. Fuller, L.S. to N.G.; Bro. Forward. R.S. to V.G.; Bro. Rowe, L.S. toV.G.; Bro. Warren, Warden; Bro. Marsh, Conductor. After the ceremony was over, the D.D.G.M. addressed the meeting on Oddfellowship generally, pointing out that .the Registrar-General's report on Friendly Societies showed the Order to be working on a sound basis. The speaker also referred to the public installation, and said he believed it was the first of the kind that had ever been held in Canterbury. Such meetings would tend to farther the cause of Oddfellowship. The ex-D.D.GJf. Bro. Swartz also addressed the meeting, which closed shortly afterwards, and was followed by a banquet in the Town Hall, the festivities winding-up with a dance.
