The Board met on July 9th. Present— Messis Addinell (chairman), Smith, Sheat, Maindonald, and Wating. The outward correspondence was read and approved. The surveyor's report was read and adopted. Letters were read—from John Ollivier, Provincial Auditor, in reference to Eoad Board accounts. D. Nairn and Son, enclosing price list of trees; also an offer for planting same, with guarantee. Resolved—That the Surveyor beempowered to arrange for the planting, and for the kind of trees most suitable for the soil. Cust Road Board, enclosing cheque in settlement of account between the two Boards; also stating the Cust Board would agree to any necessary small repairs to the Tram road, but cannot undertake the widening of the Boundary road, by Collier's, for want of funds. Kesolved — That the pipes across the Downs road at the junction of the Ohoka road be taken out, and a concrete culvert with wood top 4ft wide in the clear be built in place of the pipes. Eesolved—That the Eailway Engineer be requested to have some drain pipes put in through the line, or the approaches at the northern side of Boyd's road. Resolved—That Mr Donavan be allowed to clean out the ditch along the east eide o£ the Eyre and Cust road from, the pipes to HorreJl'e drain. The Surveyor was directed to have the necessary shingling done near Latto's gate. Beeolved— That Sheat's road be shingled with twenty yards to the chain from the North Eyre road to the south side of the gulley attdie corner of section No". 15186. Mr Maindonald. gave notice that he would move at the next meeting that stepe be taken to protect the roadway from the encroachment of the River Eyre, fronting section No. 10035. Messrs Tosswill and Moule waited on the Board for the purpose of ascertaining their views vitb. regard to the widow of the late poundkeeper. They intended to canvase the district for subscriptions, would the Board head the list? The Chairman said Mrs Boss had applied to continue in charge of the pound. While considering her application they would favorably consider the matter of a grant. The deputation thanked the Board and retired. Letters were read from the Tai Tapu and Templeton Sparrow Clubs, applying for a grant in aid of their funds. On reference to the Small Birds Nuisance Act, it was found that the Board could not grant money to be spent outside the district. It was resolved that the Clerk write to the clubs, informing them of that fact, and state the Board will vote a sum of i2lO to a central club should one be started. Letters were read—Prom Mr O'Callaghan, forwarding copy of the Impounding Bill. The Clerk to acknowledge receipt of same, and point out the alterations the Board recommend. Prom Selwyn County Council, forwarding copy of circular from the Colonial Secretary re boundaries of" district. From Bailway Department, in reply, promising to abate nuisance at Templeton railway station. Prom Mr K. Aiken, objecting to a rate of jd in the £ being struck, he being of opinion that the dry portion of the district could do with less. The Clerk to reply, stating the Board hat fixed the rate as low as possible. Besolved that a general road rate of id in the £ be made and levied on all rateable prqperty in the district for the current year, and, in compliance with a resolution of the South Waimakariri Board of Conservators, a river rate of l-32nd of a penny be made and levied over that portion of the district within the Lincoln Boad district. That the sum of £5 be given to Mrs Bosser, and the use of one of the Board's cottages; and that the road ditch by Mr Sharp's be cleaned. The report of the Assessors appointed to value the roads was then considered, and the Clerk instructed to offer them to the parties adjoining at the price named, with the cost of purveying, Aα, added. Tenders were opened for keeping clean a portion of the Halewell rrrer for nine months, and f©r cleaning Graham's . drain. The tender of J Griffiths was accepted in each case. It was resolved that Mr E. Town3hend and the Clerk meet Messrs Sutton and Bell at Moffatfs bridge, to decide whether the ditch from Dawson creek to the river be deepened. The pay-sheet was then passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
