VOLUNTEERING.
TO THB EDITOB OF THB PBBSB. Sib, —I have been lately looking over a little pamphlet called ".Dress Regulations for the New Zealand Regiment of Artillery Volunteers." These regulations are capitally got up, and give the minutest 'details of uniform for officers and men, even describing the sort of boots to be worn.
Cannot something of the Mnd be prepared for the infantry, and an attempt be made to do away. with the diversity of dress one sees on parade here, such as some officers wearing the old-fashioned cheese- j cutter peaks to their caps, and others with no peaks at aU, and also the peculiarity of undersized men walking about with grenades on their collar and imagining themselves to be guaTdsmen. Most probably many .will say I am too particular, but as we have now at the head of affairs a man who has "a knowledge ef these things," I would appeal to anyone's good sense .. whether it would not be advisable to try and mend these matters before the Governor's next visit to the Cathedral city, when in aU probability he wiU order a general inspection.
