The tickets are available for return up to the end of March next. » Messrs Cuff and Graham report the sale of the well-known schooner Spray to Mr Hayes, timber merchant at Timaru, and the vesselwiUbeputinthet-adebetweenTimaru and Sfewartrs Island. The. Spray was formerly owned by Captain Buxton, who sailed her, and earned for her an enviable name among the coasting vessels which trade to tiais port. She is a smart little schooner, of which her new port of registry need not be ashamed.

Regulations for the examination of engineers under the Shipping and Seamens Act, 1877, and which regulations will come into force on the Ist day of December next, appear in a recent " Gazette." The follow.ing is the rule in reference to " failure ":— *' If the applicant fails in the viva voce or practical part of the examination he may not present himself for re-examination -until he can produce proofs of three months' further service at sea as engineer from the date of failure.
