CORRESPONDENCE.
ST. ALBANS LOAN. TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS.
Sib, —At the public meeting held in St. Albans last week Mr C. W. Turner reiterated the statement that if owners of property refused to sell ithe land required to widen the roads, the Council would probably decline to go to the trouble and expense of compelling them to sell; that, in fact, if one or two ownc-a in a road should prove obstructive, the Council would, in all likelihood, desist from the attempt to widen such road. If this is the intention of the Council, I may state that there is one property having considerable frontage on Crescent road, for which a prohibitive price will be asked ; and I have no doubt that in each of the roads proposed to be widened there will be found several owners who will ask a price equally prohibitive. This will practically settle the question. It is to be hoped that the ratepayers will mako a right use of their prerogative by voting against an increase of taxation. Yours, Ac. D. Griffiths.
