The steamship Orient, which left Melbourne on January sth, arrived at Plymouth to-day. Her cargo of frozen meat and butter has been examined, and was found to be in good condition. The Waterloo Coursing Cup has been won bj SnowfLight. In the House of Lords to-day a debate teok place on a motion for the appointment of a committee of inquiry into the working of the Irish Land Act, and after a lengthy discussion the motion was carried on a division by 96 to 53.

The " Daily News " publishes a paragraph stating that the recent AngloFrench note proposing the maintenance of the statu quo in Egypt had received the cordial approval of the other Powers, who will, it is further stated, probably delegate England and France to execute a general agreement of the great Powers in regard to Egypt. General SkobelofE harangued a gathering of Servian students in Paris yesterday, and pronounced a warm diatribe against the Germans, expressing at the same time an opinion that a RussoGerman war was inevitable. The event has created a sensation in Vienna and Berlin, and the press of these cities express indignation at the action of General Skobeloff. Intelligence is to hand that a band of Peruvian marauders sacked the town of Uiaco, and massacred 1000 inhabitants, including 300 foreigners who were assisting the Peruvians to defend the place.
