ST. ALBANS.
The official declaration of the poll for this i district wae made shortly after noon on Setur. day, at the Avon Road Board office, Pap&nw road. About twenty persons wore preient The Beturning Officer stated the number of Totes recorded to be as under : Brown "... 218 Wilson ifiq O'Neill ;; 8 5 He, therefore, declared Mr John Etsci Brown duly elected for the electoral district of St. Albane. [Cheers.] Mr Brown thanked the electors for the honor they had conferred upon him, and tis& he would serve them to the belt of hie ability, and hoped that now the election was over, that all ill-feeling and enyy would be put aside, and also hoped that thow persons who did not vote for him would not hesitate to come forward and make their want* known to him on all occasions. g e also referred to a report that had been circa. lated about hie going to an employer in ibis town and requesting him to " sack " one of hie men because he had adrieed a friend to vote for Mr Wilson. This report was quits unfounded; in fact, he did not hear of it until this mornicg, and he was hurt to think than anyone should have such an ill opinion of him. Hβ was certain this falsehood h&d oost him twenty-five votes. Ho concluded his remarks by again thanking the elooton far placing him at the top of the poll. [Cheorj.] Mr O'Neill said he was not one to cry over spilt milk, and desired to thank those trho had voted for him, and, although beaten this time, he hoped at some futuro time to came forward again. Hβ wished all present a merry Christmas and a happy new year. A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer was moved by Mr Brown and seconded by Mr O'Neill, and duly acknowledged.
