Bend Or is the rort of animal capable of trying a Two Thousand Guinea* competitor, considering the other day be presented Petronel, last year's winner, with 211b and a decided beating. The Prinoe of Wales was present at Epiom on Wednesday, and had his bet on Bend Or. The prince backed him for the Derby, and was a great believer in the hone's cap*, bilitiee.
The recent cucceesea of heavy weight* for the popular mile and s> quarter Epsom Handicap is something extraordinary—Thunder, 9*t 41b; Parole, Bst 71b; Master Kildare, Qjt 21b; and now Jttend Or, 9at; and on every occasion " Master Frederick Archer " was the performing prinoe of the pigskin. The Derby winners, Hermit, Doncaster, Cremorne and Kingcraft, had representatives in the Two Thousand Guineas, whilst to the Leger winner of 1869 belongs the honor of the paternity of the hero of the hour, Peregrine. Though previously Peregrine had never sported silk, strange to say, he has three times been under the hammer. Originally, as a foal, he was purchased by Mr Taylor Sharpe for 175gs, from whom Bobert Peck bought him for 450gs, and last autumn he was re-bought for 7Qogs. Possibly now j 7000gs would not purchase him. Suoh is the lottery of horseflesh and racing. Madame Eglantine, the quondam bearer of the farfamed cherry jacket and black cap of the Leybourne Baronet, Sir Joseph Hawley, and ihe dam, moreover, of that sterling racehorse Bosicrucian, has given in her old age birth to a filly by Blue Gown, whilst Touch-me-Not, the dam of Sir George Obetwynd's chestnut flyer Tangible, has foaled a filly to Craig Millar, of Doncaster renown. At the Newmarket Craven Meeting, Lord Roseberry'e Goshawk, by Wild Moor out of the Middle Park mare Aglaia, won a matoh with Mr Leopold De Bothsohild's Fetterless. At the same meeting Lord Fdlmouth'e three-year-old colt Henry 11., by Henry out af Atlan'ie, one of the mares en route tor the Auckland Company, won the Bedmington Stakes. At the Curragh meeting Mr W. W. Louisson'e four-year-old colt Beauchamp 11,, by Victorious out of Bergere, another of the Auckland mares, won H.M. Plate, two miles, and also ran seoond to Greenfield, a son of Stockinger out of Lady Lynbury, in another Plato of three miles. At the same meeting Mr J. McGrath's four-year-old filly, Sally Brass, by Musket from Little Nell, won the Maiden Handicap, one mile and a quarter, and also a Handicap Hurdle Bace of' one mile and a half.
