SOUTH RAKAIA.
This Board held its monthly meeting on Thursday. Present—Messrs O. N. Msckie (ohairman), E. 8. Ooster, D. Q-. Holmes, Wm. Allan, and John Larnbie. The clerk's report was read and received. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Wm. Allan, seconded by Mr Holmes—" That the road from sections 26782, 18,343, 27669, through 18334 and 19278 the north-west boundary of reserve 2058, through 24938 to the north of 25439, be opened; provided the land through section 25439 be bought at the usual price or taken under the Publio Works Act." A petition was read from ratepayers and others re opening the road through Native reserve 2058. On the motion of Mr Lambie, seconded by Mr Ooster, it was resolved—"That tho road from Kyle School joining the road leading to Dobbin's ford from about ten ohains to the southeast of section 18334, as requested by the petition, be opened for traffic" A petition was received from several unemployed men in the district, asking the Board to provide them with work. The clerk was directed to reply that the Board has decided to let all work by publio tender as far as possible. A petition was reoeived from the residents near Kyle asking the Board to form Mannering's road to Dearden'e orose roads; also, to form the road from Osborne's corner to Kyle School. The clerk was requested to report on the subject. The South Bakaia school committee wrote, asking for a footpath to be formed from Oridland street to the school. The request was granted. The residents in the Kyle district wrote, asking for a piece of land for the purpose of a cemetery. It was resolved—"That the necessary steps be taken for the furtherance of the objeot of the petition." The Secretary for Publio Works wrote, enclosing forms for returns. A circular was received from the Bangitikei County Council, containing resolutions re local Government. From the Manawatu County Council, re conference of County Councils and Itoad Boards. Ordered to be received. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Holmes, seconded by Mr Lambie—" That all crossings running at right angles with the water race within the South Bakaia road district be at the expense of the Board, and that where the water runs parallel to the road the Board will pay for one crossing in every three miles, provided the total cost does not exceed £500. Accounts amounting to £223 6s were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
