connty Longford, Ireland, moved as an amendment — " That the Government should refrain from using $he military to enforce the ejectments of tenants until the Land Bill was made law,! , and he mada a lengthy epeeoh in support of his motion. The Hon. W. E. Gladstone, in reply, said that he deemed the proposed amendment as an insult to the throne, and as an attempt to obstruct the action of the Government. He hinted that strong - measures would be taken to prevent any such obstruction. Mr. Paraell also spoke on the motion, and in the course of his speech admitted that the ultimate object of the Laud League was to secure autonomy for Ireland. He deprecated the commission by Leaguers of any act likely to lead to revolution, but added that the first arrest under measures of coercion would be the signal for a complete repudiation of rente by Irish tenants. .The debate lasted during the whole sitting, and was further adjourned to to-morrow. January 18. It is rumored in political circles throughout Europe, that the Powers have decided to abandon the proposed arbitration on the Greek Frontier Question. A very severe hurricane, accompanied by an exceedingly heavy fall of snow, has been experienced throughout nearly the whole of England. The railway lines in many places have been blocked, and traffic suspended. At several coast ports many vessels have become total wrecks owing to the fury of the gale.
