A most important discovery of gold has been made in the course of the construction of a long tunnel. They have been two and a half years bringing in the tunnel through the reef which exists between Dunedin Flat and Teremakau river, and have just broke through into the wash dirfc, whioh for thirty feet averages one grain to the dish. This is 130 feet below the surface. As the lowest ground at present worked has been forty feet, this discovery is very important, as all the ground below this depth is workable by ground sluioing, 'which means nearly the whole of the goldfields. Q-odiell, Hugh Boyd, and John Coffey were oharged that, while servants in the employ of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, they did, on June 7th, at Three Springs etation, conspire together to seize and take out of the possession of the said company fifteen horses, valued at £750, of which the company were the mortgagees lawfully in possession, with the intent to extort from the company divers same of money lawfully due by the company to the defendants, but alleged to be due to them for wages by one Walter Allan. The charges were diemiseed. Accused, who are a rery decent lot of men, were kept in gaol all night, bail being refused. They thought that they had a right to take the horses for the payment of their wages. At the Supreme Court to-day true bills were found against William Bradshaw, larceny; William Charles Sidney, larceny from a dwelling; James Miller, horse stealing and larceny; William Beilly and Eobertßobineon, robbery with violence, and stealing from the person; Edward Kelly, stealing from the person; Dennis Barrett, forgery and ottering, and false pretences; James Kelly, larceny from the person. No bills were returned against William Beilly, stealing from tie person, and Thomas Dober, shooting with intent. William Bradihaw, fer stealing a theodolite, was sentenced to four years' penal servitude. William Charles Kidney, for larceny from a dwelling, was found guilty of receiving, and received four years.
