ROAD BOARDS.

LITTLE BIVER.

The usual monthly meeting was held on Monday, the 7th mat. Present—Messrs Ooop (chairman), Parkinson, Forbes, and Birdling. The following correspondence was received:—From the Halswell Road Board, asking that a deputation meet one from that Board, to oonaider adjustment of boundary between the two districts. From the Property Tax Assessor re access to papers relating to his department. From the manager of the South British Insurance Company. From the Begistrar-G-eneral, with forma for statistics. From Mr Fenton, authorising progress payment on the Bidge road contract. From the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board, proposing arbitration in the matter of the Mount Bosau Bange road. From Mr McQ-rath, offering to sell a quantity of broken metal not required by him in his late railway contract. From the Eev. A. P. O'Gallaghan, requiring a draia to be opened on McQueen's Flat. From Mr Joseph Prioe, asking the Board to form a portion of road near his property. From the chairman of the Waimakariri Board of Conservators, requesting valuation of that portion of the little Biver district within the jurisdiction of that Board. The usual report was submitted, considered and approved. The following matters were duly proposed and seconded, and resolved upon:—That the metalling on the Lyttelton road be deferred for three months. That application be made to the proper authorities for a right to procure road metal from, reserve 1258 in Gaton'e Bay. That notice be given of the Board's intention to levy a rate of 6d in the £. That Mr William Bovine be informed that if the conditions of Iμ? lease be not complied with, the lease will not be renewed. That Mr McQ-rath be offered Iβ 6d per yard for his metal, this "being considered the full value, the metal being'generally too rough for road repairs, and will require further breaking. That Mr McPhailbe appointed on behalf of the Board. to arbitrate in the matter of the Bange [road. -That an extension of time be allowed te Mr MoPhail wherein to complete Ms contract on the ridge road. That a deputation meet the Halswell Board on the 21st inst. That arrangements be made with the Natives at Little Biver for the (purpose of procuring shingle. -That tenders be invited for the following works:—Glayisg the lower portion of the Lytteiton road. For building pound at Little Biver. iForming Price's road about 30 chains. For opening drain on McQueen's flat. For opening side drains on the lower Tai Tapu Junction road. For completing the formation of the main road from Morton's Island to the main draia bridge, about 150 ohains. For metalling about 30 chains in the Hepworth Township. For forming about 60 chains in Kaituna bush. For [forming 60 chains on Island Bay Spur. Also sundry works re drain near Barnett'e. Exception having been taken by Mr Forbes to the fact of tenders -being accepted by the chairman and another member on the 17th inst., without a quorum being present, and also that the intention of the Board had not been entered on the minutes at the regular meeting; a plea of justification was entered on the ground that the work let, namely, clearing the creeks from drift wood, &0., would not admit of delay ; it was proposed by Mr Birdling, and seconded by Mr Forbes, and agreed to: — " That the aotion of the members be confirmed."
