ROAD BOARDS.

ASHLEY. The usual meeting of'the above Board was held at the Board room office on April Ist. Present —Mr Bar well (chairman), Messrs Cunningham, Hodgson and Dick. The clerk was ordered to keep a book of reference, in which to enter the names of all contractors who had not satisfactorily carried out their contracts, with the fault found with each. Letters were read—From the Chief Surveyor re Terrace road, suggesting a settlement of the matter in dispute. From Mr Bureb, asking for one month's extension of time, to complete contract. Granted. From the Kowai Boad Board, re gorse on Boundary road. The surveyor was ordered to have gorse, &c, cleared off at tie expense ef the owners of the land fronting on the eaid road. From Mr Thwaite, re diversion of water through his section, and offering no obstacle. From Mr Dobson, enclosing correspendence with the Surveyor General re Kuku pass contract. From the Treasury, intimating the payment of subsidy of £101 8j 9d. From the Bank agent, acknowledging the receipt'of the same. Tenders were opened, and one in each case accepted. Mr Rowe asked for a progress payment on bis contraot. Refused, Bβ the work was not finished within contract time. A petition was read asking for forme tion of Farrily's road. The surveyor to report. Resolved to have Barker's road shingled to the junction with Round Hill road ; to advertise for applications for situation of day laborer, at 63 per day, with cottage, at.d to have road across downs, through Mr Williams' property, formed. In the absence of Mr Brown the formation of drains on Ingles' road was deferred. The clerk was directed to call a public meeting to get an expression of opinion re water-courses crossing main road. It was decided that men should be put on to clear the gorse from the roads if owners of land fronting the said roads neglect the notices served. Mr Brcck asked to have Carboy's cutting improved. Ordered to be done. The pay sheet, amounting to £855 2s 2d, was passed, and the meeting adjourned.
