EXPLANATION.
TO THB BDITOB 09 THB PBBBB. Sir,—Will you allow mc to make an explanation regarding a case in the Bosident Magistrate's Court, which I see recorded in to-day's issue of yonr paper. Regarding the man Bhaw, oharged with passing a valueless cheque, the Magistrate, on the authority of tbe police, assumed that I accepted a valueless and improperly-drawn cheque from an intoxicated man, m payment for certain goods. As a matter of fact, the statements made by Sergeant Morice as to the circumstances of the cage were entirely incorrect, and without the smallest foundation. The man was not intoxicated when he entered my shop, and I did not accept the cheque from him. To tell the facts aa they occurred would occupy too much of your valuable space. Sir, I shall feel satisfied by your permitting mc to say that they were totally different from those stated by the police, and the strictures of his Worship were not really warranted. I may add that I declined to prosecute, having discovered that the case of forgery could not be sustained. S D. Nathak. Colombo street, February 16th, 1880.
