ROAD BOARDS.

A meeting of this Board waa held on Siturduy, at the office*, Durauchdlo'e Bay. The members present were Messrs E. Ohappell (chairman), McDonald, o;id Bhadboit. Mr MePhttir waited upon tl:o Bourd in regard to hie oontract passing through Mr Bhodes* property. The Board agreed to take the work off his hands in tcvtioni on the certificate of tho engineer, the contractor to be advised before the n?xt meeting as to the arrangements with Mr Rhodes. Mr T. 8. Johnson complained of certain landalips. Tho Board requteted him to bare them removed, tie the eanie would be a benefit to the public. Mr Johnson also complained that liw sledgos had been broken in slewing stones for culvert* while being usci by the Board's bullocks. The question waa referred to Mr Duibury. Mr P. The Board resolved—" T:iat fou;- members meet the engineer and cc tractor t>ll the work to arrange the matter." A letter was received from Mr E. C. Lit tor, sitting that ho would not allow the contractors' for the Summit road to cut up his l:ind uut.il tho amount oi' compotisation was paid. It was agreed to writo to Mr Lottor, stating that tho necessary steps for a conveyance wore being taken The rato collector wrote, stilting that he had had no time to mate up a return of his rate accounts. It wns agreed that the collector wait upon tho Board at its next meeting, when stops would bo taken to onforco payment of outstanding rates. Tho Littlo Biver Bond Board vsrote, regretting their inability to comply with the Board 'a request for a loan. The chairman was aurpriuod at the request, as tho firet he paw of it was in the Ohriatohurch papers. This Board also wrote, declining to do anything to tho bridge at Bed John's gully until it was ascertained in what district tho work was. Mr Wtn. Montgomery wrote, staling that he hud interviewed the Premier, who had informed him that as soon as tho fivo million loan was raised the amount owing would bo paid over to the Canterbury Hoad Boards, but until this was dose Government could not pay. Tenders wore ordered to bo called for noma works. Eugene JDuliorre wrote complaining that the contractors far Odell'e road wore encroaching on hia property. Tho Board regarded tho report en frivolous, The trustee in tho estate of William Multby rcquoeted that any payments coming to the bankrupt be paid through the trustee. A report was received from the engineer allowing stone culverts to be used instead of pipoain tho Mount Boeau road. A request was received from, the secretary of the Head cf tho Bay race committee for leave to ereot stalls on the day o£ the races. The request wae granted. Mr A. J, McQrogor was appointed valuer for tho district and to represent tho Board at the Assessment Court. It was arranged that the annual oleotion of members bo held on Saturday, 3rd January. It woe further reaolvod that there be three polling places in the district, viz., at the offiop, Duvauchejlle'e Bay, Akaroa and Wainui. Tho Ij'oard direoted that tho public meeting, as required by the Publio Worke Act-, for the pnrpose of considering tho quention of closing the old road through Eliodes' Fh>, Wainui, be held on Friday, 26th December. The Board resolved to aak tho manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Cbriatehurch, for en advance of £1000 for six months, to enable them to meet ourront engagements. Accounts to the amount of £695 14i were passed for payment and the Board adjourned.
