Business generally has been qciet, and ia con-, sidered sound. Bamora ror a certain failure are: without foundation. The Banks expect the tightness of money to give way shortly, in view of the low rates of interest at home, and increased confidence there in colonial land and other securities. In alea, the demand continues brisk and above supply. A shipment of McEwen's was placed at. the wharf at 10a 6d. Full rates are obtained for: 12s 3d to 12s 6d ; Bulldog, lis to lis 3d ; Tennant'a, 10a 9d to lis j English bulk is increasing in demand. Stout ia in moderate demand, with a plentiful stock. Cornsacks slightly easier, stocks wearing down. Quotations are 7s 9d to Bs. wheat is earning freely forward, but millers are cautions. Quotations are 2s 9d to 4a, according to samples. Oats are in heavy supply, but tho demand is. alack, 2s 3d to 2s 6d f.o.b. Bailey is In fair demand at 5a 6d to 6s for prime ; 4s to 5b for milling. In kerosene, a large business has been done lately to supply the season'a country demand. Quotations are :— Diamond, lid to Is; Devoe's la lid to Is 2d; Noonday, Is 7d; high test oils. Is 7d to Is Bd. The clearances from bond daring the last five weeks have been over 6000 cases. In spirits, Hennessy remains firm and scarce at 34s to 34s 6d. Other brands coming forward ' are Bisquifc Dubonche, Associated Vmeyards, La Grande ~Marque, and Bonyer, Quillet and Co. In whiskies, the demand is brisk, and fairly distributed among many brands in the market. In malts, there is a heavy demand for English, and up to lis has been obtained. Invrbc-bgill, April 25.
