C. N. MACKIE, D. G. HOLMES, E. S. COSTER, And others. Hereford street west, Christchnnk, April 14th, 1879. . TO C. N. MACKIE, E-Q., And other Gentlemen signing the Requisitioß. GENTLEMEN,— Having been requested by so many of the Electors of Coleridge to come forward to fill the vacancy in the representation of the district, caused by the retirement of Mr Wasoa, I feel bound to place myself at their disposal. ' If I should be honored with your confidence on this occasion, I would endeavor to give my best exertions to promote the interests of tbi district, with which my own have for Sβ many years been identified. I think, in the present disoreanised state of parties ia the Assembly, no large measures of general importance should be carried until there has been a thorough re-adjustment of the representation, as it is manifest, froca the increase of population and progress of settlement, that the Provincial District of Canterbury, and more particularly the Coleridge District, have sot their share of representatives. I cannot come forward as a supporter of the present Government, as I think they have disappointed the hopes and expectations of their warmest supporters, as much by what they have done as by what they have left undone, but whatever measures they may introduce I would give them my earnest consideration, and trust that I shall always be able to give satisfactory reasons to the Electors for the eounelmay pursue. I shall endeavor to meet the Meetors at each places as may be most convenient to them. I am, Gentlemen, Year obedient servast, : 447 679 j (Signed) j GEOBQE HABT. Insurance Companies.
