THE ROAD TO LITTLE RIVER.

to the bditob of thb pbkss. Sib,—Travellers to Little River and Akaroa should know that the new road by Lake Ellesmere has five or six of its culverts entirely washed away. In their places are wide chasms through which the water strongly and deeply flows, and which cannot be forded with safety by man or beast. This evening some miles of the road by Lake Forsyth were under water,, and the coach was stopped by clayslips which had descended from the hills and blocked the roadway. Fortunately a vehicle from Little River was procured to convey the mails and passengers onward. Olphert's hotel is isolated;.no access to or from it being attainable without passing a considerable distance through the water. By publishing this you may render service to some, as settlers are rare, and information only to be obtained at distant intervals along the road. Yours, &c., One Who was Spbmbeged. September 10th.
