Also, that a like sum of five thousand pounds (.£501)0) will bo paid to any individual or company who shall first produce not less than five hundred (c 00) tons of marketable sugar from beet grown and manufactured in the Middle Island. Such bonus to be paid upon its being duly certified by the Commissioner of Crown Lands of the district within which the sugar shall have been produced and by the Chairman of the nearest Chamberof Commerce, that the minimum quantity hereinbefore mentioned has been so produced, and is of marketable quality : Provided further that such certificates shall have been presented at the Colonial Treasury within three years of the date above -mritten. Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, July 25, 1878. is hereby given that a Petition has been received by the Colonial Secretary, signed by eighteen freeholders and of land iv the Amuri Highway District, praying that the dis f rict may be divided and a separate Highway District be proclaimed, to be called the St. Leonard's Highway District, having the following boundaries : Starting at tbe boundaries of the Cheviot and Amuri Highway District, on the Hurunui rivrr ; thence along the said boundary to the river Wairauiua; thence following the course of said river upwards to the bonndary of St. Leonard's and Culverdon Estates; thencealong the boundary of said estates to the Pahau river: thence following the course of the said river upwards to the boundary of the Balmoral Estate and the Pahau Educational Reserve, and along the said boundary to the Hurunui river ; thence downwards a'ons the course of said river t» the point of commencement, comprising the properties known as the St. Leonard's > state and Pahau Educational Re.-erve, including the Township of Rotherham.
