CUST ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at the Board office, on Monday, August 12th. Present—All the members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read from the Under Secretary of Public Works, with reference to the stoppage of the road over the. Fernside Downs to Ashley; alio asking to be f unmhed with three copies of the newspaper containing advertisement notifying the stoppage of such road. Tha chairman reported having forwarded them. Prom ihe Crown Solicit or on the same subject. From the Steward of Educational Beeerves, i asking to be supplied with a lithographed I plan of the Cust road district. The clerk wag directed to forward him one. From Mr W. Beere, calling the notice of the Board to the dangerous condition of the bank from which the contractor obtains the shingle he is putting on the Ashley road. From the Oxford Road Board, declining to pay half the cost of the bridge on Bennett's rood over the Cust, unless the bridge be made as large ac the one over the main drain on the same road. The clerk reported that by direction he had made the alteration desired by the Oxford Road Board. From the Domain Board, stating that they could not eupply the Board with any quick plants for the plantation reserves. From the clerk, tendering his resignation as clerk to the Board, and thanking the members of the Board for the kindness, courtesy and consideration extended to him during the four and a-half years that he has held office. Mr Higgins moved, and Mr Dickenson seconded —'■ That the Board, in accepting Mr Ingram's resignation of the post of clerk, desires to express its entire confidence in him, and regrets that it is necessary for him to leave the service of the Board.

The clerk was directed to invite applications for the poet of clerk, and to prepare a specification of his duties. After considerable discussion, it was decided to widen Page's road and fill in the drain in the centre of the road. The clerk was directed to write to the Steward of Reserves, and ask him if permistion could be obtained by the Board to let the plantation reservee, so as to provide funds to keep the plantations in the district in order and repair the fences when r quired. The olerk was also directed to ca 1 fjr tenders for metalling portion of Terrace road; making cutting at Gardener's on same road. Tenders were opened for various worki in the district, and one in each case accept cd. Accounts to the amount of £999 9s 8d were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. V. :.
