SALE OF THE MARQUIS OF AILESBURY'S STUD.

(From "The Field.") The disposal of the racing and breeding stud of the late Marquis of Ailesbury caused a large company to assemble at Tattersall's, and the prices ruled high throughout the sale. In addition to the Ailesbury stud there were other animals disposed of at high prices, and we append details. Mr J. E. Bennett sent up five hunter by Mogador, who were sold or bought in—we could not tell which—at fairly good prices. Old Not Out, who after winning the Ebor Handicap, was only beaten by Cardinal York for the Cesarewich, realised 130gs, at which Mr Holman purchased him for stud purposes. One animal we found missing from the Manton team that would have realised a high price had she been offered for sale, viz., that brilliant mare, Cantiniere, who had passed into Laid Falmouth's stud. The highest priced animal was, however, her half-sister, Aventuriere, who won the Cesarewitch and Goodwood Cup, and the competition for whom was so spirited that it was not until 170gs was offered that she fell to the bid of Alex. Taylor. This mare had last year a foal by Blair Athol, who was later in the day sold for 550gs, but has this season unfortunately slipped her foal. Mr Sterling Crawfurd, contrary to expectation, only purchased one lot, that being the brood mare Boundary, a sister to St. Albais and Savernake, in foal to Hermit, for whom he gave

700gs, and it is to be hoped she may produce , something better than Temple Bar. Boundary's Hermit yearling was the higher priced , one of the day, as Mr Barrow gave 710gs for , her. La Belle Helene was sold for (>oogs, her yearling filly by Hermit realising lings. Mr Ellam purchased Scrutiny for 300*s, little enougb for a young mare by Blair Athol out of Bribery, and Mr Carew-Gibson was fortunate in obtaining a half-sister to Cantiniexe and Aventuriere for IGOgs j the same gentleman also purchased, for 400gs, a yearling colt by Adventurer, out of the lastnamed mare, who, if he goes en well, may run to four figures' when he visits Sandgate Park in August. There wee many intending purchasers for the three-year-old Hermione, by Young Melbourne out of La Belle Helene; but Tom Brown, the Newmarket trainer, had apparently an endless commission, and obtained h«?r for lOoOgs. Hermione only ran once, that being in the New Stakes at Ascot, where she was very heavily backed, but split her pastern in the race ; from the ill-effects of this, however, she was apparently completely recovered.
