ROAD BOARDS.

AKAEOA AND WADTUI.

A special meeting of this Board was held on Saturday afternoon at the office, Akiroa; the members present being Messrs H. Piper (chairman), P. Williams, S. Carrey, and B. Shadbolt. Mr Woreley waited upon the Board in regard to the road through Mr M. Morgan's property to hie section. The Board explained to Mr Woraley that Mr Morgan did not object to the Board's going on with the road through his land, but objected to a prvtate individual doing 10. The Board offered to do half of the proposed work when the road was pegged off, which Mr Woraley agreed to. Mr E. LeKeyre saw the Board in j regard to patting the Long Bay road through i hit land under the Public Works Act; he would rather they could settle the matter without doing m>. The chairman suggested that he should take £15 per acre for the whole land. It was afterwards agreed that the Board give £25 for the piece of land, about an acre and a half, through which the road goes, or £15 per acre for land for road and also piece cut off by road, the Board fencing both sides. Mr Monk interviewed the Board in regard to the Lβ Bon's Bay rood encroaching where it runs between his section* to the extent of 70 links. Tie Board informed Mr Mora that, aa the road in question was described on the maps as a chain wide, they intended to make it that width. The award of the arbiters in the case of the Long Bayroad going through Mr Inman's land in German Say was read to the Board. She

arbiters found that the Board were entitled to pay Mr Inman for 10a. 2r. 27p., being parts of rural sections 4142, 2238, and 4122, the sum of £213 7s 6d, damages for severance of 26a. Or. 2Sp., £26; that the expenses of fencing both sides of diversion No. 1 be paid by the Board, at the rate of £1 5s per chain; that the expenses of fencing one eide of diversion No. 2 be also borne by the Board, at the rate of £1 5s per chain, and all expenses of arbitration be paid by the Board. A complaint was received from J. Everett, saving that he had been stopped* cutting grass seed on the old Okain'e Bay road by Mr H. Segar. The Board decided not to interfere in the matter. A long discussion took place in regard to the question of the boundary between the Board and the Little Biver Road District. It appeared that some time ago negotiations were entered into between the two Boards to make the watershed at Barry's Bay Pass the boundary, but nothing definite ever came out of the proposed arrangements ; the opinion of the members present being that they had no legal right to alter the boundaries. The Board resolved that the original boundaries of the district, as set forth in the second echedule, sub-sec 28, of the Canterbury Roads Ordinance be adhered to, and instructed the valuer to enter all property in the district beyond the Barry's Bay Pass in the new roll. A tender from W. Maltby for making three and a quarter chains of footway at Waeckerlie's corner for £11 was accepted. The clerk was instructed to write to those contractors who had not signed their contracts, that unless they did so at once fresh tenders would be called for the various works. Mr Jule Lelievre's letter in regard to land required on his property for Long Bay road wae considered, but as the terms of the letter were too vague, the Board requested Mr Lelievre to put his offer again in a more definite form. Accounts to the amount of £91 14s 8d were then passed for payment, and the Board adjourned until Saturday, 19th met.
