CORRESPONDENCE.
RAILWAY MANAGEMENT. TO THE EDITOB OF THE FBESS. Sib, —Rumor .has it that the services of one of the oldest of the railway officials have been dispensed with to make room for a " friend" from Dunedin. It appears to mc that all the old and respected, and I may add, hardworking railway men, seem to be marked for dismissal, and there does not appear to be any reason assigned for the change. Canterbury must surely have been a very bad school if it has failed to rear men equally as good as those brought from Dunedin in order to suit the caprice of the present ruler on the railways. What has Mr Hesketh done that he should be removed at a moment's notice, as I understand has been the case ?
I may add that if the official impertinence displayed by a few of the new " interiors " is a criterion of what we may expect from the new "superiors," then I can only wish that they had all remained in Danedin or Wellington, or wherever it may have pleased a wise and good Government to have placed them. Yours, &.., M.
