ELLESMERE.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at Leeston on Thursday, Ist March, Present— Messrs R, Lockhead, Job Osborne, and C. Bourn. On the motion of Mr Osborne, Mr Lockhead took the chair. Tne following corr spondeoce was then read:—From Mr R, B. Willis, complaiaing of the state of Fereday's road fronting on his property, and objecting to a culvert placed by the Bmrd on road leading from Brown's corner. Messrs Bourn and Osborne were deputed to visit the road complained of previous to tin next meeting. From clerk to the Assessment flourt, applying for the use of the Road Board office for sitting of their Court. The ovPTseer, in reply, to inform him, that the office would be at his disposal. From J. Johnston McConnell, complaining that the backwater from McOonnell's and Tanmnta cret-k was overflowing tbe road drain and flooding his section. The overseer was directed to clear the creek on the road reserve po as to relieve the drain complained of. From Mr W. W_tso., calling attention to the state of the gorse on Watson's road, adjoining Mr W. Boag's property and to a drain which required clearing. The overseer was directed to give Mr W. Boag notice to clear the gorse compUiaed of. From _r D Killahan, asking the Board to metal a portion of Fereday's road, which was very bad for traffic during the winter months. The Board decided to metal the portion applied for with fifteen yards metal to the chain. From H H. Chapman, Esq, MD, accepting the appointm-nt of medical officer to the Board nnder the Public Health Act. From chairman County Council, asking to be furnished with returns within the Ellesmere district. Tbe overseer was directed to supply the returns requested. From the Registrar General, asking the Board to furnish statistics for 1876. The overseer was requested to prepare and forward same. From the chairman of Central Boird of Health, enclosing form of report. Petition was received from Messrs Bogg, McEellar, and others, requesting the Board to form Herman's road from Christie's corner to the Drain road. On the motion of Mr Bourn, seconded by Mr Boag, it was resolved— " That, as soon as the occupiers of properties fronting on tbe road have thoroughly stubbed up the gorse, the overseer be instructed to call for tenders. Mr Dodd applied to have the Taumutu creek deepened. He was informed that the Board declined to interfere with tbe creek in question, as the roads were not affected by it. Messrs Parker and Crowe interviewed the Board relative to some improvements on Hanmer's road. The overseer was instructed to call for tenders as soon as he bad ascertained what was abso lately necessary to be done. The overseer was instructed to call for tenders for forming to' foil width luwood's road near the mill, provided the necessary gorse stubbing was done, also, also to fill in gullies on the dry. land above Killinchy, near Smythe's road. The consideration of tenders for re-buildi.g bridge over Hart's Creek on the timber depot road was deferred for future con sideration. Overseer's report was read and adopted. Pay-sheet amounting to £'26 16s 2d was examined and passed for payment, and the Board adjourned
